Opposite Sushil Cinema Hall just before the Godowlia crossing is a two storie book shop called Indica Books. The owners Dilip and Rajesh Kumar have partnered with a businessman from Spain and so have a huge selection of all manner of books. They also have an outlet on Assi Ghat which Rajesh looks after. Both outlets specialize in Spanish, Italian, German, French and Japanese print books on Varanasi. Whether Godowlia or Assi, Indica has your books on hand.

Just kitty corner from the Durga Kund talab (water tank) is a gullie (lane) down which you'll find Pilgrim's Book House. You'll know it when you get there cause they've got a cool entrance with a carved arch. Inside there's two floors of book and even a small temple in the rear. Collections include books on Indology, philosophy, Vedic science, Ayurveda, Indian music and History. Check this place out when your in the Durga Kund area. If you're going to Nepal afterwards, the've got an even bigger bookstore in Nepal.

Rakesh is the owner of Harmony, a bookstore located on Assi Ghat. The bookstore, which he first started in 1996, now has over 10,000 titles. The shop stocks all kinds of books concerning India as well as such topics as the social sciences, philosophy, fiction, politics and history. Rakesh also has website which is filled with titles and even takes credit card payment. He can ship books to any country by courier. Rakesh is fluent in both Hindi and English and likes to enjoy a cup of chai with anyone who might wander into his air-conditioned shop.
